Important Update: Fitness to Attend Gym Letters
We would like to inform patients that Lancaster Medical Practice is unable to provide letters confirming fitness to attend the gym.
Why?
Fitness to attend the gym letters fall outside of the scope of General Practitioners’ NHS terms and conditions. The British Medical Association (BMA) and NHS England advise that GPs should not be asked to confirm fitness for gym attendance, as this does not form part of NHS-funded services.
What Should You Do?
If you require a Fitness to Attend the Gym letter, we advise you to contact a sports medicine specialist, or a private occupational health provider.
Accessing Your Medical Records:
If a private provider requires access to your medical history:
- You can access your records via the NHS App.
- If you need assistance with the NHS App, our reception team is happy to help.
- If the NHS App is not an option, we can provide a summary of your medical records (with your consent) to support their decision.
Thank you for your understanding.
